An aurora is an area of dancing, visible light that is only found in a few locations on the earth, and even then only under certain circumstances. The aurora borealis is the most famous, and it is found in the arctic.

The sun emits ionized particles, a phenomenon called solar wind. These particles enter the magnetic field of Earth, and are then attracted to the magnetic poles. When those particles enter the atmosphere, they collide with air molecules, which causes a light similar to those made by neon tubes.
