Anemometers typically measure wind speed, but they could be used to measure the velocity of any fluid if properly calibrated. There are many kinds - the one most people think of typically consists of four cups connected to a center shaft. The wind catches the cups and spins the shaft, electronics convert the RPMs into wind speed
