An Amp Crossover is a simple circuit made of matching capacitors that creates a bandpass. This allows lower frequencies (BASS) to be sent to low frequency speakers (WOOFERS) and higher frequencies to be sent to high frequency speakers (TWEETERS). Mid-Range speakers do not require a crossover. Many amplifiers have built in crossovers, but it is easy to build your own.

It is a device that serves the purpose of limiting frequencies to the speaker. It directs highs to tweeters, midrange midwoofers and low bass to the subwoofer. This is important because the low bass and the midrange frequences are very much a like so it could result in a mess.

Basically a crossover is used to divert different frequencies or a audio signal to different speakers. This way you get the best sound from each. Other wise you would have frequencies going to speaker that can't properly reproduce them.
