"Staff Dog" refers to the English or American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This is a breed that has gotten a bad reputation due to their unfortunate use in illegal dog fighting and purposeful training by "tough guys" to be aggressive and mean. However, when properly reared, trained and supervised, they can be loving, obedient, and loyal members of the family.

When someone refers to a staff dog they are referring to a staffordshire bull terrier. They are strong, muscular dogs of medium to large size. They have a short nose with strong jaws and teeth that meet in a scissor bite. These dogs should be socialized to avoid aggressive temperament.

A Staff dog could possibly be a Staffordshire bull terrier or an American Staffordshire terrier often referred to as a pit bull. The AKC recognizes the Am Staff as a breed and is allowed to compete.

Staffs or Staffies is the short term for a Stafford-shire Bull Terrier. They are very similar to the American Pit Bull Terrier but they are much smaller, usually topping out at 16 inches and around 20-25 pounds. They have a bad reputation that is largely undeserved, they make wonderful family pets.
