What is a snap tee used for in plumbing?

A snap tee was given to me, but I honestly don't know what to do with it. What is this used for, and will I ever need it?

A snap tee is a diversion pipe. Basically when water is traveling down the pipe and hits the tee it is diverted into 2 directions. The "Snap" is the type of fitting. It snaps on and you don't have to glue, solder, or crimp it on. It is the easiest fitting to use.

Snap tees allow junction into a PVC pipe without having to cut the pipe and add in a tee. Snap tees vary for pressure applications, non-pressure DWV applications, and for the diameter of the spliced pipe and branch pipe. You are best to scrap it and buy the appropriate one if the need arises.
