This is a kind of wasp that makes its nest from mud. They are from the family Sphecidae, or family Crabronidae. Common mud daubers are the organ pipe, black and yellow, and the irridescent. They are not aggressive wasps, but often endanger aircraft by nesting in small spaces in planes.

A "mud dauber" is a common name for a family of wasps which build their homes out of mud. They are long and slender, with thin waists.
