A linear foot is the foot measurement in a straight line. For example, a piece of wood that was 4 feet long, would be 4 linear foot. There is no conversion or difference to a regular foot. The contrast would be cubic or square feet. A linear foot is the measurement of one thing, either height OR width.

A linear foot and a plain foot are the same thing. Both are a standard unit of length. There are slightly different definitions of a foot. There is an English foot, an Imperial foot, a US standard foot as well as dozens of obsolete versions, but for normal uses they are essentially all the same

A linear foot is a measure of length. It's used to measure things like rope, for which the length is the most important dimension. Square feet are measures of area.
