Question by  Sue89 (47)

What is a good small harp for a child learning for the first time?

My eight year old has shown an interest in learning the harp, I have no idea where to even begin on getting her one.

Well,I would suggest something from the Pilgrim Harps catalog. But in general, things to look out for is that a harp should be small and should contain 17-25 strings.

hohner blues harmonicas (marine band, blues harp, pro harp, special 20, golden melody) or Lee Oskar Major Diatonic are all very good harps for begginers.

If you search on ebay or amazon, you can find dulcimers or autoharps for fairly inexpensive prices - 100-200 dollars, depending on the quality. If you are buying the instrument for a child, you'd probably not need to get a top-of-the-line instrument, anyway. The instruments aren't identical to the harp, but can give you an idea for the instrument.

If the child is learning for first time, it is better to buy a 19 strings harp. The whole kit will cost you not more than US$ 129
