I think taking out the trash and helping feed a pet are two good chores for a seven-year-old. They are not intensive chores, but they can teach responsibility that can lead to bigger chores - yard work, for instance, or cleaning the animals cage/taking it for a walk/etc.

7 year olds don't have a long attention span, so you will want to think of something short and not too repetitive for him to do. Feeding a pet or watering a few plants might be a good start.

You could have him help make his bed, clean his room, dust furniture, clean windows he can reach. He could also pull weeds, pick branches up in the yard.

set the table. empty the dishwasher. take out the trash. do the recycling. help parents and older siblings do whatever. Help cook dinner. have fun with it! Chores develop self-discipline and nurture self esteem. Good for you for starting NOW!
