The French guillotine is a device used to decapitate an individual (chop off their head). A blade is suspended above then neck, then is released, resulting in decapitation and death. It is mostly associated with the French Revolution.

A guillotine wass a mechanism used by the French to behead people, usually traitors. There would be a wooden frame where a blade was fitted. The one to be beheaded would stick their head underneath the blade and the executioner would pull a rope to drop the blade. The head would be caught in a basket.
