A canal is an artificial waterway that has been man made. In anatomy it is the same idea it is a passage in the body. In every since of the word from water, to astronomy it means a passageway basically in one from or another, whether man made or naturally occurring.

Canals are aqueducts which bring water for the purpose of consumption, farming, and general water purposes. Without water most civilization could not have advance given the lack of clean water for good health.
