A warrant requires that you be brought before the court. There are different types of warrants, some more urgent than others. The police are not likely to look for someone who missed a traffic court appearance; they will pursue someone with a felony warrant for a violent crime.

If this is a bench warrant for default,misdemeanor, the police in your jurisdiction may not actively pursue it, they may wait for you to be picked up or identified as you go to the registry, etc, but you can't count on this. A felony warrant will insure active pursuit. You'll be taken in custody and presented to the court.
