You didn't miss much. Marissa's little sister, Kaitlin, joined the cast and Seth called her "mini cooper." After Kirsten's Dad died at the end of season 2, Sandy took over his company. Kirsten was in rehab for alcohol addiction. Julie moves into a trailer park. Marissa goes to a new "tough" school and her relationship with Ryan is tested.

Ultimately, Marissa dies after a horrible earthquake. She is in the car with Ryan. so sad. You have to watch it. Seth runs away, Sandy tries to stay optimistic about Kirsting alcoholism, the kids run off to Uni. SO much happens!

If you missed the entire third season of the OC then you missed a lot of stuff. Seth and Summer break up, prom, graduation, Sandy takes over the leadership role of The Newport Group. Marissa becomes out of control and the third season featured a unforgettable and surprising season finale.

I personally did not watch the OC, but if you want to find out about season 3 see if it is on a site like Hulu or if you can not find it online they may have made the DVD for the show.
