There are special commercial dog foods for lactating dogs. Make sure she has plenty of cool, fresh water, too. Talk to the veterinarian for recommendations and to find out if supplements are in order.

My dog was 72 Lbs before pregnancy. As she nurses we are feeding her 4-5 times a day. We have added poultry and yogurt to her diet. The dams look will tell you if she needs more food. Do not deprive her! Remember bland foods low in salt.

The mother requires a diet which has a lot of carbohydrates in it. Carbs are essential because they provide the mother energy for labor and the birthing process. Also, a diet with proteins and minerals is ideal.

While nursing her pups, her demand for nutrients and will increase. You must feed her with multi-vitamin syrups and calcium syrups and also her intake of food increases to meet the demands of the puppies by two to three times her regular intake. She must be given lot of fresh water.

Just feed her whatever you have been. If she isn't eating normally you might want to scramble an egg or two and add it in to her food. This sometimes helps if she's being lethargic.
