What does "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" teach kids?

The story teaches kids about the transformation of the caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly, about the succession of story (this happened, then this happened, etc.), days of the week and counting to five. It also serves as memory practice regarding the order of events. It is meant for countless re-readings.

This is a brilliant book teaching children about the life cycle of a butterfly. It also teaches them the days of the week in the correct order, counting 1-5 ( the amount of apples etc the caterpillar ate on different days), the names of some fruit and other food, and sequencing events.
