It is just a term of endearment that has no particular meaning, it is the same as calling you babe, honey, darling or sweetheart. If you have someone calling you something you are not comfortable with, simply tell him and he will more than likely respect your wishes and find a pet name you do like.

Probably by calling you that he is trying to be affectionate and come up with a name that implies that he loves you, if it is your boyfriend or someone you are in a relationship with. It can be perceived as creepy if it is a stranger however. There is a chance however, that he is trying to be polite.
