Counterpoints are parts of music that contrast each other greatly, but sound harmonious and work good together despite the great differences in the notes. The notes generally are offset and rhythmically in different places, but the phrase works, none the less.

In music, counterpoint occurs when two voices are playing parts that are independent from eachother in both rhythm and melody (or harmony). The best examples of contrapunctal lines occur in Baroque harpsichord music.

Counterpoint in music is when two different pieces of music are technically independent, perhaps with different tempos, cadences, and key signatures, but are harmonious when played together. Usually, these two pieces are written to be played together but can be played separately.
