An American Popular song is a song that gains currency through repeated airplay on American radio. Popular songs are composed by American or English writers and performed by American commercial singers and bands. The Billboard Top 100 chart is a recognized measure of a song's popularity as are Grammy Awards and chart positions in the trade publication Radio & Records.
