What do you think about inviting the boss to a home party for employees?

As long as you remember that at the party you are just coworkers mingling but at work you have to get down to business and this person is actually your boss. Just remember it's not a good idea to do something or say something stupid in front of your boss. You still work for them.

If you are having a party at your home and inviting co-workers, it is a good idea to invite your boss, however, not required. I would be sure not to do anything that might jeopardize your job at the party, if your boss is expected (i. e. drink heavily or do drugs).
