Yanagisawa, LeBlanc, Conn-Selmen, Bundy, Yamaha & Vito are the best manufacturers of woodwind instruments. Yanagisawa is probably the most expensive followed by LeBlanc, but the professional models of either of these would be a quality instrument.

mostly incorrect. Yamaha is good for the money, Selmer and Keilwerth are probably better. Yanigasaw, LeBlanc Vito - all fine for students.  add a comment

It will depend on what you want from your saxophone. If you are looking for a student model, then a rental model from a school or music store is your best bet. If you are looking to play in a community band or church, then a Yamaha instrument is the best.

If you are looking for a new horn a nice choice is the Yanigasawa models. These are Japanese made and are of high quality. If you are looking for a classic horn and are willing to break the bank there is no better than the Selmer Mark VI.

Ridiculous comments! Find a couple pro sax players and a couple repair guys who are really good and ask them. Selmer and Keilwerth will frequently come up.

I personally really like the LJ Hutchen Eb alto sax, and it is at a fairly reasonable price of around 400 bucks. Nice sound, does not sound cheap.

I play sax and my alto is a Yanigasawa A991s, it has a beautiful rich tone, is comfortable on the hands, the action is light and smooth. Selmer also do a good Alto the Selmer Reference 54 which is very nice to play and sounds great.

Calling any instrument the best is just so suggestive, but the Selmer Paris Reference 54 Pro Alto Sax model 72 could very well be the best. Like with any instrument, one should really try it out for him or her self. In any event, this is one of the best, if not the best alto sax bieng made today!

Best is a matter of interpretation. There are several great saxophone makers out there. My preference would be anything made by Selmer. They have the Bundy line for beginners with the Bundy I and Bundy II. Selmers best line is the Mark VI. They will put you back around $3500.

Take a look at Bundy Alto Saxophones. They make high quality equipment, but are not that expensive. Bundy is your clear winner.
