You will have to apply for permanent resident status first. You must stay in the US 5 years. You will have an interview at that time and you will be given a test about US history and government and a basic english test. Then you will take an oath.

There are many things you can begin to study for citizenship. Some of these are: The Branches of the Government, The Supreme Court, what is the role of the President and other members of the Executive Branch of government. You can also study the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, the Civil War, and about Abraham Lincoln.

There are preparatory classes and packets with questions you can get from the INS once you register to take the citizenship test. The types of questions asked are generally related to U.S. history. You also have to be able to recite the pledge of allegiance to become a citizen.
