What do you give a 3 year old for a sore throat?

My daughter has a sore throat and I don't know what medicine to give her.

I would call your doctor for suggestions, but we give any childrens cough medicine - usually the store brand some will specifically state that they are for sore throats. Also pedialyte ice pops will soothe the throat and eliminate dehydrations concerns as they may not want to drink as normal.

For a 3 years old sore throat you can give them tylenol or motrin for pain. If its just a sore throat its probably viral. If it is accompanied by fever it could require antibiotics and you should contact your doctor.

Your best bet at this age is to treat the cause of the sore throat. If it's post nasal drip treat that with cold medicine. Also, don't forget that sore throat pain is still pain so you can give tylenol for that.

I have had some luck giving plane honey, but if it is still sore some tylenol should knock it out.

Just your basic children's tylenol or perhaps even advil (for children specifically 3 year olds), is all you can do to sooth a child's sore throat (it will/should go away within a few days).

Warm drinks can be soothing. Honey has natural antiseptic properties, so adding some to warm water can make a sore throat feel better. Drink plenty of fruit juice as well.

I have actually learned recently that cold and cough medicines for children under 5/6 is not good for them, even those medicines that claim to be natural. The best idea would be to see your doctor and see what may be causing the sore throat, tylenol/motrin inthe meantime
