If it is enlarged by gallstones you can have those broken down but they have a chance of reforming in the future and enlarging your gallbladder again. Depending on the severity of your symptoms or gallbladder attacks you can decide to have it removed, but it is not immediately necessary. An ultrasound would be a good next step.

You may need to have surgery but it is important to find out whether the enlargement of the gallbladder is a temporary immune reaction that may reverse itself or whether it is a problem that will not go away on its own. Gallbladder surgery can be done by a laparoscopic incision, and so is not terribly evasive.

There are some medications they can use. If they have to do surgery it will probably be laparoscopic surgery and thus not as invasive.

An enlarged gall bladder can be a sign of possible infection which can be treated with antibiotics. However, there maybe other reasons. Your physician will discuss with you the options and will help you determine if surgery will be right for you. If it comes to surgery it is usually done on an outpatient basis.

Usually any type of gallbladder disorder will require surgery sooner or later. The gallbladder has the potential to cause a very serious and even life threatening condition in the body if infection should set in.

Gallstones in gallbladder may cause its enlargement. Gallstones are dissolved by medication or broken down to small pieces through ultrasonic waves. The stones are also removed through key hole surgery.

An enlarged gallbladder usually indicates that gall stones have formed. Other causes like cancer are rare. Surgery is the normal treatment. You can live just fine without your gallbladder.
