Mint marks are basically inscriptions that can be found on a coin which indicates where the coin is produced. It is generally in the form of a letter or a symbol. Mint marks will provide sufficient proof on whether a coin is worthless or priceless; however, there have been some frauds that have emerged on the market as of late.

It identifies the city where the mint was located. Current mints P = Philadelphia, D= Denver, S = San Francisco. Old mints include CC (Carson City, Nevada).

Mint marks tell you where a coin was made and the year in which it was created by the mint. For example, 1981 D would indicate a coin made in Denver in 1981.
