If your deck is made up of a natural materiel like wood it begin to decompose. Any natural material will start to break down as it is exposed to the elements of wind, water and sun. By placing a stain with a seal on it you will protect the natural color of the wood and protect from damage.

Use a bleach/water solution and a pressure washer to clean and restore the boards to that like-new look. Apply a clear wood sealer. Fresh, meaning the boards were not dried well, and still feel moist and sticky. Allow 30 to 90 days to dry out. Block traffic access to deck until completely dry.

First, you should clear the deck from all furniture. Second, you should pressure wash the deck using the appropriate manufacturer settings and nozzle for the pressure washer. Third, you should wait at least 24 to 48 hours for the deck to dry. Then apply a layer of stain according to the directions as well as several layers of sealant.

Be sure to pressure wash your deck to start. Use regular stains and seals but jump for some out door proofed items. It is best to use darker colored stains as well so that the natural environment outside dosnt affect the look. There are also special stains for pressure treated wood.
