You want to make sure the clubs fit your swing. Test them at the driving range before buying. Check out how used ( nicked up and scratched ) they are before making an offer. You can probably buy used clubs for 25 to 30 percent of original selling price if they are 3 years old or more.

When looking for preowned golf clubs one should look for good groove depth, striaght shafts with no dents(for steel shafts) Grips should not be worn slick or cracking.

I look for particular brands of equipment and particular models within those brands which have been discontinued. The key is I know what I'm looking for particularly muscle back forged blade irons, and certain putters. The make and model of the equipment is very important. Next I'll look at the condition of the equipment.

You need to make sure that none of the clubs are missing. Overall they should look well taken care of. They should look clean and shiny. You want to make sure that they are minimal scratches on the clubs. If you can try to find ones that come with a bag as well.
