What do I have to do to get an importing license?

It depends on the rules/regulations in the state where you live, as well as the federal regulations regarding what you want to import and in what quantity. US Customs and Border Protection deals with licensing and governmental import authorizations. USCBP offices located throughout the U.S.

An importers license can be obtained at your local permit office downtown. The importers license does require a lot of paperwork as well as background checks. You must know ahead of time exactly what you wish to import before filing .
