Galileo Galilei invented a geometric compass. He made improvements to Johannes Kepler's telescope, with which he affirmed Copernicus's heliocentric theory and disproved the Church's theory on planetary elements; created the basic principles of motion which he used to explain planetary movements; and wrote a book, in italian vernacular, supporting heliocentricism.

Galileo invented a better telescope which he used to observe space. He contributed to science, math, physics and astronomy, namely the heliocentric theory (the theory that the planets revolve around the sun).

Galileo invented the pendulum clock, the thermoscope, the escapement, the military compass, the barometer, the thermometer and a device to draw water out of an aquifer using horse power. He wasn't the original inventor of the telescope however, he greatly improved its magnification power using his own ideas not actually having even seen the design of the first one.

Galileo was one of the greatest scientists of the Renaissance. He did not personally "invent" anything but scientific theories, many of which are still important. contrary to popular belief, he did not invent the telescope, but he was one of the first people to think of using it for astronomical observation.

In 1597, Galileo invented a geometric compass, a scientific instrument with two arms that can be used for making calculations and geometric measurements. Galileo also is credited with inventing a microscope with two lenses at either end of a hollow tube. He also contributed to the invention of the thermometer.
