Currently India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, Maldives, and Burma (Myanmar) use the Rupee as their monetary unit. Afghanistan and Tibet have used the Rupee in the past.

As a currency, "Rupee" is used in few asian countries (though with different pronunciations), namely - India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, and Maldives. In the past, countries Myanmar, and Afghanistan had its currency as "Rupee".

India is the country that uses the rupee. India also uses American dollars as currency. Because of the volatile exchange rate, many banks will not convert money to rupees outside of India, so travelers should plan to convert their money once they arrive.
