Continuous work in the computer without any rest can definitely cause numbness in arms. This can spread in hands also. Numbness can be there while you sleep in a single side without changing positions. Blood circulation becomes poor in such parts and so numbness is created. Numbness increases when you get older.

It could be a pinched nerve or maybe a nerve in the elbow or wrist that is causing numbness in the arm. If it has lasted too long, better to contact a doctor to find out for you. If there is any bruising from a recent accident that could be the cause as well.

It seems like your arm may be subject to some form of paralysis. It seems that the nerves are not circulating well.
