Sometimes low-quality, high-fiber foods can cause frequent, large bowel movements in dogs and cats. If the stool is solid (not diarrhea) then try slowly (over 1-2 weeks) switching the food to a better (more expensive) brand such as Science Diet.If your dog has any other health concerns or is on a special diet already, then first check with your veterinarian.

Really? Science diet IS expensive but what I've learned is that the top ingredient is CORN, a cheap low value filler that is not great for dogs. It bothers me that vets push it for profit when you search online and find it is very low quality food  add a comment

There are many things that could be going on, possibly being fed too much too often (twice per day is best), eating something they shouldn't be, or even just stress from something that has recently happened. Even disease.

The dog probably ate something that has upset its digestive tract. Make sure to check for blood or mucus in the stool. If either are there it could mean something serious is wrong.

My dog had frequent bowel movements and I took her to the vet and she had a urinary tract infection that was treated with antibiotics.

Could be poor food or an illness. Take your dog to a vet for a checkup to get a proper diagnosis based on all signs/symptoms.
