You probably don't have a proper dvd codec installed. Windows doesn't come with one installed. I would suggest k-lite or cyberplayer codecs. Also your computer may not have a dvd drive installed. Check under my computer to see if your cd/dvd drive shows up and is installed. If not go to add hardware to see if you can install it.

If you can read data from dvd media you can assume that the dvd hardware is OK. If no dvd movie plays then the problem is likely to be in the software you are using to play the dvd. Try using another software player.

You might not have the codecs/software installed for it. Make sure to have a proper dvd player software installed if you have Windows XP. If you have Vista or Windows 7, windows media player should be able to play it though.

There could be a problem with the dvd rom drive or the DVD itself could be dirty or damaged. If that is the case try to first cleaning or trying another DVD then if that doesn't work replace the drive. Also try a different type of DVD player software. There could be a conflict with your current softwear.
