When I worked at a music store, I always recommended either Hal Leonard or anything from the Berklee Press because I noticed younger people tended to find it easier to understand and less complicated. Mel Bay and Alfred are also reliable for easy to read music but it is a little more old school.

The three big publishers are Hal Leonard, Warner Brothers and Alfred Publishing. All three have very searchable and user friendly websites that your can browse through titles. Some of the websites provide you with a preview of one of the pages so you can see if it's something you want.
