Fever results if the child is about to get an illness or may be getting sick soon. Fever is a way for the body to fight off the virus by raising the body temperature.

This sounds as if it could be some kind of infection at the knee that is then causing a fever as a symptom; give the child some motrin and see if that helps and if not, then you will want to take him or her to the doctor as soon as possible.
