Sometimes they drool while kneading you. This is kittenish behaviour, and means they are happy and relaxed. You are "mother cat", and they are kneading in anticipation of milk coming.

Excessive drooling in cats can be caused by many different things. If accompanied by your cat pawing its mouth or redness around the mouth your cat could have ingested some kind of poison, such as a toxic plant or chemical. Other possible causes for excessive drooling are mouth, dental, or gastrointestinal problems.

Minor drooling when excited, scared, about to cough up a hairball or even with pleasure when being stroked. If it is excessive/persistent, take the cat to a vet ASAP. It can be a sign of pain or nausea, mouth/teeth/gum problems, oral tumours or a neurological condition.

Your cat may have an infection of the mouth. Look for rotten or missing teeth. Many times if there is a sore in the mouth it will cause drooling.
