Craters are often caused by asteroids, meteors, debris in space. The moon is more likely to be impacted by passing by objects because the moon has no atmosphere. Volcanic activity can also cause craters.

More than likely, Bhabha was caused by a distinct meteorite strike in the Moon's distant past. While the Moon has been a constant target, Earth has been left relatively unscathed.
