The tenor part is usually the highest group or groups of male voices. The altos are usually the lowered pitched female parts. They often intertwine in harmony.
Four traditional vocal ranges are bass, low male; tenor, higher male; alto, lower female, and soprano, high female. Tenor and alto ranges have considerable mid-range overlap, good for duets.
