What can you tell me about the Red Velvet wasp?

I thought they were ants but someone told me they are stinging wasps.

The person who told you that the Red Velvet wasn't an ants his absolutly right. In fact, only the female look like an ant because she wingless. She is also covered with dense hair who make her look like an ant.

Even though they resembles like ants,they are not ants but really wasps.They looks like black mostly, but have orange red hairs on thorax and abdomen.They have below one inch in length.Males have wings, but the females did not.they eat some worms etc.Many species of them occur in Texas.They are nocturnal.They did not do any harm to plants.
