A dog passes standards of breed before the process begins, to ensure that the dog should be bred. Dogs are specifically chosen to mate and produce a litter of puppies. All dogs receive medical check-ups. Both male and female dogs must be two years old before breeding. Female Pomeranians should stop breeding when they are seven years old.

Female Poms go into heat every 6 months for approximately 3 weeks. The male should be approximately the same size so female can pass pups without a c-section.

Pomeranians are a small breed dog. Breeding these dogs can be risky for the bitch and the puppies. The first thing to do is check to make sure the bitch is big enough to whelp puppies. A risk of breeding these smaller dogs is that a larger puppy may become lodged, and then the Pomeranian would need a c-section.

First of all no one should breed any dog unless you are a professional and are doing it for the betterment of the breed. There are millions of puppies getting put to sleep in shelters every day.
