Ortho Tri Cyclen comes in two doses - regular and 'LO'. It's commonly proscribed not just for people with bad cramping, but to control acne. Besides the regular birth control side effects, it's also been known to increase breast size (good) and foster hypoglycemia (bad).

It has been approved for birth control and the treatment of hormonal acne. Some side effects include weight gain, and in rare cases it can worsen acne.

It makes my periods regular and light. I finish my pills on a Sunday, I get my period on the following Wednesday and it's gone by Saturday. The only negative is the mood swings it gives me. I switched to generic and automatically switched back to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo.

You take three weeks of the actual "hormone" pills and then the last week is when you take blue sugar pills, which is the week when you get your period. It's expensive, so get the generic version.

It last 28 days. You take 21 days of birth control and then 7 days of reminder placebo pills. You have to make sure you don't miss any.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is a triphasic form of birth control. This means that it delivers three different dosages of hormones based on where you are in the pack, plus a placebo week. Because it is triphasic, you must take the pills in order and you cannot skip the placebo week like you can with monophasic pills.
