Cinder cone volcanos are the most simple. Particles are forced through a single vent; the resulting explosion causes the material to break into pieces called cinders. The cinders fall around the vent to form a cone. The other major kinds of volcanoes are composite volcanoes, shield volcanoes, and lava domes.
