If you have stairs, you can introduce a ramp or make sure the dog stays downstairs. Also make sure that your dog doesn't have to jump much or do much climbing up or down hills while walking them. A good, soft, pet bed is also something that can help with reducing stress on the dog.

Glucosamine is a favorite OTC supplement for your senior dogs joints. This should be given daily. Stronger medications may be available through your veterinarian that contain a portion of anti inflammatories as well.

Consider buying him an orthopedic pet bed. Check your local pet store for arthritis pills that contain perna or green lipped mussels. Also if the dog is overweight it's important to take the weight off, three extra pounds on a dog is like thirty extra pounds on you.

There are supplements that the dog can take. There are also stairs to help getting in and out of the bed or couch. Consider shorter walks, too.

There are many ways to reduce stress on a dogs joints. First, make sure the dog is getting extra joint health vitamins. You can get them at your vet's office or the pet store. Second, try to reduce the number of trips your dog makes up and down the stairs.
