What can I do about my cats howling?

You may need to keep them inside at night. Get yourself a litter box. If they go out using a cat door, you can set it to let them in but not let them back out at night. That way they're in your house--bothering you instead of the neighbors.

It's all dependent on the cause behind the howling. Usually it's an environmental factor; The animal wants something or is hurting. Pinpointing and Addressing it should help. It's possible however for a female cat to be 'stuck' in heat, in which case she would be loud, always, no matter what.

Does it sound like the cat is in heat? In pain? You can take it to the vet and have it neutered and/or checked out (for abscessed teeth or ingrown claws for example). If it's bored or lonely, provide toys or companionship while you're away. If it's got Siamese lineage... well, there's really nothing to do about these talkative cats.

Cats can be just like little children. One of the methods that I used to stop my cat from howling is distraction. I pick him up and spend time petting him. I also try to distract him from howling by offering him kitty treats. You could also try playing with your cat more frequently.

first find out why they are howling. is there a cat in heat? are they fighting? find out whats going on with them. then fix the problem. if a cat is in heat, isolate it. if they are fighting, separate them.

If your cats aren't fixed get them fixed and it will probably stop the howling. Cats howl nonstop when they want to mate. You'll take that drive away when you fix them, which will quiet them down.

Spaying or neutering generally stops cats from howling. They also won't howl as much indoors as out, so sometimes it really is as simple as giving them a curfew.
