To keep your melons from rotting, try and pick them earlier and plant them in a less wet spot. Also, try to grow them off of the ground.

After planting the melons, and once they start to produce into fruit, make sure to keep the fruit from actually contacting the ground. Ground contact causes the fruit to rot.

There isn't much you can do except pull them out when you find them or leave them till your garden is done and then use them for composite

Melons are easy to grow in a garden, but they are vulnerable to dampness. There are some things you can try. You can grow the plants up a trellis. Once the melons begin to develop, you may need to create a sling to support them. Or you can put a brick or other support on the ground under each melon.

You get a plastic lawn bag, bag them up, then double bag them so the stink won't be too strong before the trashman comes to take them away.
