Unfortunately, once a fish comes down with dropsy, there's not much you can do. Contrary to popular belief, dropsy is not actually a disease in and of itself; it a symptom of a different health problem. Some fish will survive but the majority will die. You can try to figure out the underlying illness and treat that if possible.

Keep the water clean. If you have your betta with others remove the one with dropsy betta. Increase the water temperature to 83-84. Salt is a good thing, but don't do too much. Add 1/8 teaspoons of epsom saltwork.

The most common reason for dropsy in betta fish is bacteria through food or bad water conditions. The only live food i feed my betta is brine shrimp. all most all kinds of dropsy are fatal. if found early it can be cured very soon. Completely clean water is what i recommend for your betta.

Dropsy is caused by a bacterial infection. Your fish will die if not treated quickly. You need to change at least 25% of the water in your tank. Separate fish with symptoms of the disease and treat with a prescribed antibiotic.
