The dog should be brought to a veterinarian who specialize in animal behavior. He will determine what is the most likely cause of the aggressive behavior and decide which treatment is the most appropriate.

Be the calm, assertive Alpha dog. Give your commands in clear firm voice, if they are biting grip them by the back of the neck. If it's a male - get it clipped as this will help. Have confidence in your ability to control the dog. Good luck.

Correction and ensure dominance. Many aggression issues result from canines assuming the dominant role. When aggression behaviors begin, use distraction techniques to halt the behavior before it gets out of control and behave like the dominant one.

I have 2 Maltese dogs myself, and just adore the breed. I find that excersize is the best way to calm aggression. Take your dog for a walk and enjoy the outdoors and bonding experience. Staying calm around your dog will keep her/him calm submissive. Good Luck!
