An abnormal pattern on an EKG shows a doctor that your heart isn't beating in the right rhythm. My cardiologist barely needs two minutes to look at a printout to determine if everything's going well, so if the doc didn't mention anything your heart is probably beating a good rhythm.

A doctor can tell you if you have an abnormal heart rhythm or abnormal extra beats which means the heart is not functioning properly.

An EKG is a tracing of the electrical activity of your heart. It can tell heart rate, regular or irregular beats, and if there is any injury or infarction.

In brief an ECG tells your doctor about the underlying rhythm of your heart as well if there are any conduction abnormalites. Also can tell about acute ischemia and old heart attacks, plus a whole lot of other stuff.
