VOCs are volatile organic chemicals. They are carbon containing compounds that evaporate easily from water into air at normal temperatures (think: gasoline). People are most commonly exposed to VOCs through water, air, food and skin contact. Most VOCs found in the environment result from human activity such as spillage or improper disposal.
