The British shorthair is a very easygoing breed of cat. They do not demand a lot of attention and are pretty easy to take care of. These cats like attention and enjoy being petted. I would recommend this breed to anyone wanting a low-maintenance cat.

If you purchase a thoughtfully bred British Shorthair you can expect no behavior problems. They are affectionate, loyal, and calm after kittenhood. They are low to the ground, which means they don't like to be carried around much and would rather sit near you rather than on your lap.

They love CHAOS and Movement constantly. They are very sweet and well mannered but when they are young they are balls of energy and noise. They need constant things to do they get bored easily and if they run out of toys they will create their own scary thought.

The British shorthair cat is not a very social cat. You may or may not consider this a problem but if you are looking for a cat who will want your attention all day, the British shorthair may be the wrong cat for you. This cat likes its privacy.

British shorthairs are not big on affection from their owners. They prefer to be on their owns. They also do not like to be picked up or handled and will show this if picked up.

British shorthairs are pretty similar to most other cats in terms of behavior. The most important factor in behavior is the individual cat, not the breed.
