If there is an intestinal blockage, the dog will not be able to eliminate solid waste. He may have some watery stools. His abdomen will swell, he will have a lot of pain, he won't eat and he'll develop a fever and be lethargic. As long as the dog is eliminating well-formed stool, there is no blockage.

These symptoms are very important to watch for... the dog will start out losing their normal pep and become lethargic. They will not be able to go to the bathroom, so watch for bowel movements. This is followed by uncontrollable vomiting, because they are unable to pass any waste, so it comes out through throwing up. Call the vet asap!

A dog with a blockage will not be eliminating waste. It will be very lethargic and probably won't eat or drink. If it can be coaxed into eating or drinking, it will very likely vomit shortly thereafter.

Intestinal blockage in dogs usually occurs because the dog has swallowed something it shouldn't. The symptoms will depend on where the blockage occurs. Vomiting, not being able to eat or drink would indicate an upper blockage. Severe pain, vomiting, abdominal distention would be a lower blockage. See a vet immediately.
